Why not us?

Tomorrow Mike completes his first week of radiation. We talked tonight while we were on our walk about it being 4 weeks ago today that Mike had his surgery. It will be 5 weeks ago tomorrow that we found out about the cancer. Our lives have changed for the better. We have a deeper love for one another and for others. We see blessings in our lives every single day. We feel such love and support from others and are so humbled by it. We have learned so much. We have such gratitude in our hearts for good doctors, nurses, technicians and other care givers. Our prayers are more sincere. We are not asking ourselves "why us?" but rather "why not us?" There is good that has come and will come from this experience. Thank you all for sharing in our journey.

  2. There is a necessary refining process which comes through life's adverse experiences which increases our understanding, enhances our sensitivity, makes us more Christlike. When viewed in the larger perspective life, we learn and grow much more when conquering challenges, than when life is smoothly going along. we are grateful to a loving Heavenly Father who is guiding our path. We pray that others may learn as we learn through our experiences, just what is most important in living and life. The path to overcoming the world and its challenges goes through the Savior of the world where He walks with us and sustains us. He has shown us the way. Let us follow Him.

  3. As each day passes I think Mike's smile might be getting bigger! So, much life to celebrate and you both seem to be doing so well! Let's hope and pray the next few weeks treatments go as well as week one!

  5. Mike & Nancy,
I just have to comment---and being a relative, perhaps I should leave the comments to others, but after reading the blog daily, I feel so humble yet so proud and pleased. Having been really "down" about this experience, my heart has been lifted as you both relate your experiences, especially with the Lord. You are our kids, and we love you so much. I feel that the example of your steadfast faith is lifting many others---both friends and relatives. I do also believe that Mike's smile is getting bigger, and we won't worry about the hair!!Again, we continually offer our love and prayers. J & B

  7. Dear Mike and Nancy,
I too love the scripture from Timothy, to paraphrase - ‘God has given us power, and love, and a sound mind.’ If I didn’t know better, I would think you two were busier than you ever were before. A temple trip, and doctor visits, and walks, and visits, and birthdays, and nutrition changes – along with everything else, your home still seems to be a hive of activity. Your examples of coping and thriving with this enormous challenge is very inspiring. Nancy, your writing always give my spirits a lift. Mike, don’t break any hearts there at the Cancer Center. :) Hugs to both, Kathy McCartney
