Our Journey Begins

Our lives changed on Friday when we were told that Mike has a brain tumor. We have been distraught, prayerful, peaceful, and confused. We don't have much news yet other than the tumor is in Mike's right temporal lobe. He has experienced severe headaches for about 3 weeks and has had some episodes of dizziness. Tomorrow morning we meet with the neurosurgeon to have a consult and possibly a biopsy. We don't know for sure if the biopsy will be tomorrow or if it will be scheduled for another day this week. We have great faith and know that even though this experiece will be difficult, it will be meaningful in some way.

We hope to use this blog as a way to keep many of you informed. We already appreciate the amazing outpouring of love, service and prayers in our behalf. Your notes are such a comfort. Now on with the journey...

  2. It is so thoughtful of you to do this for others who are praying for you. I will check this daily as I do Logan's, our son Andy's child with Hunter's. Please take care of yourself. Susan

    Mike and Nancy,

I know you are facing the unknown. I cannot tell you that I know how you are feeling. I have been thru some difficult times in my life when I didn't know what tomorrow held. That was when I found the following:

When you come to the end of everything you know
And your next step is into the darkness of the great unknown,
You must remember one of two things:
Either you will step out onto firm ground
Or you will be taught to fly.

Know that you both are in our hearts, thoughts and the prayers of so many....of every denomination.

    Love to both of you!

  9. Thank you for sharing. It means alot to be able to be a part of your journey through this blog. I always feel so helpless on the 'side lines'. Bill and I both put your names on the prayer roll this weekend, as I'm sure countless others have. Sometimes prayer is the best we can do.

  14. We want you to know that you are both in our thoughts and prayers. The medical field has advanced so much recently, and they can accomplish amazing things. My Brother and Nephew both had brain tumors and got through them just fine. We have faith that two wonderful people like yourselves will be taken care of, regardless the circumstances. Please let us know when we can help out.

    Nancy and Mike,

There is no doubt that you are in the Lord's hands. He will hold and comfort you, and heal you if it is his will. We hope and pray that it is, in fact, his will. Mike is indeed a kindhearted man, and even tho' heaven may want him, I think we still need him here for a good long time! It is comforting to know your friend's family members have survived a similar diagnosis. Our prayers are with you.

    With love,
    Mike and Carol Baker

  17. Thank you so much for sharing in this fashion. I have never blogged before; this seems to be such a good use of technology.

Mike, I have separately sent you an email about my bout with cancer, a scary thing indeed. I know some of what you and Nancy are going through. I know that the combination of your strong faith, belief in prayer and your attitude will get get you through this diffiuclt time in your lives.

I like what was said above: Either you will step out onto firm ground Or you will be taught to fly.

    God be with you.

  19. Mike,
Just wanted to let you know that you are in my prayers. I have no doubt with your strong faith in God and your positive outlook ,and convictions in life, that you will be back to a normal routine in no time. Normal not as most people know, but only what is normal to you. Everything you do in helping our community, the church and everyone that surrounds you. You are no doubt a positive influence with everyone you come in contact with.
My prayers and thoughts are with the entire Ellis family as my association with you go back to very early childhood days. Take care stay strong.
    Love Greg Plymale.
