Today Mike and I decided we need to make priorities concerning his care. We have several doctors who are working to make Mike's body better. However, it seems that there isn't a real connection between them and us right now. After being empowered by my therapist this morning,:) I decided to take charge of Mike's care. I have requested a "family meeting" with Mike's doctors tomorrow morning. We must all get on the same page so we can do what's best for Mike and get him home and functioning well. My boys will be there to ask questions and listen with me to answers.

I lost my confidence on Sunday when Mike had to return to the hospital. We are now planning on moving forward with some home help. We are renewed in our determination to press forward. I will write more after our meeting...

  1. Jon told me how you stood up for yourself and for Mike. Good for you! That must be really hard to do when you're tired and disappointed, but you're doing the right thing. Doctors know the medical side of things, but they're not living it personally. Hopefully things will look up tomorrow a.m.
    Love, Anarene

  2. Nancy I have great confidence in your ability to care you Mike. You do a great job, and I have been very impressed with your assessment and "nursing" skills. Don't lose the faith. If I can help you with anything, please let me know. Our family is thinking and praying for you and your family daily! Brandi

  3. Way to go, Nancy! That's my girl. God be with you, Andy, Tyler, Hannah, and, of course, Mike. Love to all of you, Jim.

PS I choose "anonymous" because I don't know what any of those choices are.

  4. You are prayed for by so many. Today your names were added to the Jordan River Temple prayer roll. There is great strength and faith in this community. We are at a loss for words, but we have hope. We love you.
    MK and Tim

  5. You are on the right path Nancy. You have listened, talked, observed and consulted through the past months and I applaud you for calling the doctors together. Now we will call this TEAM ELLISMED. Stay strong...stay determined...stay the course. Have a good day and tell Miguel we love him.

P.S. I always thought I had the "Huffman" grit but you have proved that YOU are the ONE!

  6. Nancy....your strength, faith and determination continue to amaze me each day!
I am so proud to have you as a sister and thankful our entire family is nearby to support you and Mike and your family. As you already know, we are here to do anything at any time for you. You make us strong because of your amazing strength!

    Much love,

  7. Nancy, I see you had to open that can of Indiana Whoop ass! SusanT

  8. I agree with all of the above. And good for you! Good Drs will give you the best possible advice they know. But sometimes they aren't very communicative. When it's all said and done you guys have to decide what truly makes sense for how you want to live and can handle. Good luck at the "family meeting"! Hanna K.

  9. Nancy,
I am so proud of you for being assertive and communicating clearly what is needed. I don't know of anyone more able to handle the challenges you are facing. Please don't doubt your ability to handle whatever comes up. I know you are not facing this alone, even though at times I'm sure you feel alone.

  10. You go girl! Proactive is the way to go.
You and Mike know what is best. Don't ever
    get intimidated.

  11. Nancy,

You are incredible! My prayers are with you. The Lord is by your side and will take you by the hand. Your strength comes through Him.

    Give my love to Mike!
